Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain can significantly affect daily life, making it difficult to lift, reach, or perform simple movements. Causes range from arthritis and tendon injuries to bursitis, frozen shoulder, or nerve compression. At Silver Pain Centre, we provide OHIP-covered consultations and advanced interventional treatments to reduce pain, restore shoulder function, and help you return to normal activities.

What is Shoulder Pain?

Shoulder pain occurs when the muscles, tendons, ligaments, or joints in the shoulder are irritated, strained, or damaged. It may also be referred from the neck or upper back.

Common symptoms include:

N

Aching, stiffness, or sharp pain in the shoulder joint

N

Pain that worsens with lifting, reaching, or overhead movements

N

Weakness or loss of strength in the arm

N

Clicking, catching, or reduced range of motion

N

Night pain that disrupts sleep

Why Does Shoulder Pain Occur?

Shoulder pain can result from injury, overuse, or underlying medical conditions. Some of the most common causes include:

  • Rotator Cuff Injuries: Tears, strains, or degeneration of the shoulder tendons.

  • Bursitis & Tendonitis: Inflammation of the bursa or tendons causes sharp pain with movement.

  • Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis): Stiffness and restricted motion caused by thickening of the shoulder capsule.

  • Arthritis (Osteoarthritis or Rheumatoid Arthritis): Wear and tear or inflammation damages the joint cartilage.

  • Shoulder Impingement Syndrome: Tendons get compressed under the shoulder blade, causing pain when lifting the arm.

  • Labral Tears: Damage to the cartilage ring (labrum) reduces stability and creates catching sensations.

  • Referred Pain: Neck or upper spine issues can radiate into the shoulder.

Left untreated, shoulder pain can progress, leading to chronic stiffness, weakness, or permanent joint damage.
