Hip Pain
Hip pain can result from joint problems, soft tissue injuries, or nerve irritation in the lower back or pelvis. It may present as aching, stiffness, or sharp pain that worsens with walking, sitting, or climbing stairs. Some patients also experience radiating pain into the thigh or groin, making daily movement difficult. At Silver Pain Centre, we provide OHIP-covered consultations and advanced interventional treatments to help reduce pain, restore mobility, and improve quality of life.
What is Hip Pain?
Hip pain develops when the joint, surrounding muscles, tendons, or nerves are injured or inflamed. Because the hip joint carries the body’s weight and is central to walking and movement, even mild pain can significantly impact daily function.
Common symptoms include:
Aching or sharp pain in the hip, groin, thigh, or buttock
Stiffness that limits walking, bending, or climbing stairs
Clicking, catching, or grinding sensations in the joint
Pain that worsens with activity or prolonged sitting
Radiating pain from the lower back or sacroiliac joint into the hip

Why Does Hip Pain Occur?
Hip pain can be caused by structural, mechanical, or nerve-related issues. Some of the most common contributors include:
-
Arthritis (Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid, or Post-Traumatic): Cartilage breakdown causes stiffness, swelling, and reduced range of motion.
-
Labral Tears & Cartilage Injuries: Damage to the ring of cartilage around the joint can cause catching or deep groin pain.
-
Bursitis & Tendonitis: Inflammation of fluid-filled sacs or tendons near the hip joint causes localized tenderness and swelling.
-
Overuse & Sports Injuries: Running, twisting, or repetitive impact can strain the hip joint and soft tissues.
-
Hip Fractures or Trauma: Falls and accidents can cause acute and long-term pain.
-
Spinal or Nerve-Related Causes: Sciatica or lumbar spine conditions can radiate pain into the hip.
-
Poor Biomechanics & Muscle Imbalance: Weakness or misalignment increases stress on the joint.
Left untreated, hip pain can worsen over time, leading to reduced mobility, ongoing discomfort, and a higher risk of chronic pain.

How We Diagnose & Treat at Silver Pain Centre
Your visit begins with a focused history and physical exam. If needed, we may use imaging such as X-ray, MRI, or ultrasound to confirm the cause. We then match the treatment to your diagnosis and personal goals.
Treatment options may include:
Medication Optimization: Safer pain control with fewer side effects.
Image-Guided Hip Injections (Steroid or Viscosupplementation): Reduce inflammation and provide relief for arthritis and bursitis.
Nerve Blocks (Lumbar Plexus, Femoral, or Sciatic): Pinpoint and relieve nerve-related hip pain.
Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA): Long-lasting pain relief by targeting irritated nerve pathways.
Peripheral Nerve Stimulation (PNS): For chronic hip or leg pain unresponsive to other treatments.
Neuromuscular Stimulation & Exercise Guidance: Restore strength, balance, and mobility to support rehabilitation.
Osteoarthritis & Joint Programs: Comprehensive care for patients with hip arthritis.
